One input_code column is all you need.

Accepted shapes. An input_code column plus optional input_type (SOC / O*NET / CIP / NAICS, any case). Header names are flexible; code and type work too. No type column means each row is auto-detected. Codes read as text, so leading zeros like 01.0101 and O*NET suffixes like 15-2051.01 stay intact.

Why this matters

The standard structure for organizing the world of work

Advance CTE’s National Career Clusters® Framework groups careers into clear categories that schools, states, workforce programs, and employers can all share.

It matters more now: federal law is pushing states toward one career language. Perkins requires career clusters, and those plans increasingly tie into WIOA workforce plans. We use the Framework because it shows students and workers how education, training, and jobs connect.
